Return Policy | LAX Ammo San Diego
Last Updated: November 30th, 2025
We want you to know exactly how returns and exchanges work at LAX Ammo San Diego. Because we operate in a highly regulated industry, some returns are restricted by law and some are restricted by store policy.
1. Ammo sales – all sales final
Due to California and federal regulations, and to ensure product safety and integrity:
-
All ammunition sales are final once the product leaves the store.
-
We cannot accept returns or exchanges of ammunition because it cannot be resold as new after leaving our control.
Please double-check:
-
Caliber
-
Quantity
-
Intended use (range, defense, hunting)
with us before you complete your purchase. If you’re unsure, ask—we’re happy to help.
2. Defective ammunition
If you believe the ammunition you purchased from us is defective due to a manufacturer issue (not misuse, improper storage, or firearm-related problems):
-
Stop using it immediately
-
Save the original packaging and any unused rounds
-
Note the issue (e.g., failure to fire, unusual behavior, visible defect)
-
Contact us or bring the product back to the store as soon as possible
We may, at our discretion:
-
Inspect the ammo and packaging
-
Work with the manufacturer to evaluate the issue
-
Offer replacement ammo, store credit or another remedy consistent with our Ammo Warranty and applicable law
For more details, see our Ammo Warranty policy.
3. Accessories & reloading components
We apply different rules to accessories and reloading components:
3.1 No returns on opened products
For safety and quality control, we do not accept returns on:
-
Opened or used accessories (e.g., opened cleaning kits, worn hearing/eye protection, used bags/cases/safes)
-
Opened reloading components (e.g., brass, bullets, primers, powder, once packaging has been opened or compromised)
Once packaging has been opened, the product is considered final sale.
3.2 Unopened items – limited return window
Unopened accessories and reloading components may generally be returned if:
-
Returned on or before the last day of the calendar month in which they were purchased, and
-
You present a valid receipt, and
-
The product is in new, resalable condition with original packaging intact
We may deny returns if the product appears used, damaged, missing parts, or otherwise not in resalable condition.
4. Clearance, special orders and final-sale items
Some items may be marked as:
-
Clearance, closeout or final sale, or
-
Special order, custom or non-stocked items
These products are not eligible for return or exchange, except where required by law.
5. How to request a return or review
To request a return or to have a potential defect reviewed:
-
Bring the item and your receipt to LAX Ammo San Diego, or contact us in advance at 858-987-0509 or info@laxammosd.com.
-
Explain the situation clearly (what you bought, when you bought it, what went wrong).
-
Our staff will review your request and explain what options are available under our policies and applicable law.
6. Changes to this Return Policy
We may update this Return Policy over time. The “Last updated” date above indicates the most recent version.
If you have questions about how this policy applies to a specific purchase, please ask before you complete your transaction.
Ammo Warranty | LAX Ammo San Diego
Last Updated: November 30th, 2025
We stand behind the ammunition we sell and want to address legitimate manufacturer defects in a fair and reasonable way, while staying within California law and safety best practices.
This Ammo Warranty explains how we handle potential defects and what is and isn’t covered.
1. Scope of this warranty
This warranty applies to ammunition purchased directly from LAX Ammo San Diego at our physical store.
It is intended to cover defects in materials or workmanship attributable to the manufacturer, such as:
-
Significant manufacturing defects in otherwise properly stored and handled ammunition
-
Lots with consistent failure to fire or abnormal behavior in normal, safe use conditions
It does not cover misuse, improper storage, or normal wear and tear on firearms.
We are a retailer, not the manufacturer, so in many cases we will work with the manufacturer’s processes and policies to resolve issues.
2. Warranty period
You must notify us of a potential ammunition defect within 90 days of the purchase date, as shown on your receipt.
After 90 days, we may not be able to evaluate or assist with an issue, and you may need to work directly with the manufacturer if possible.
3. What is covered
Subject to the conditions below, we may consider coverage for:
-
Ammunition that fails repeatedly in normal, safe use while other comparable ammo functions correctly in the same firearm
-
Ammunition with obvious physical defects visible before use (for example, serious deformation or clearly incorrect assembly)
-
Issues that appear to affect an entire lot or batch of ammunition
Coverage decisions are made case-by-case based on safety, evidence and manufacturer policies.
4. What is not covered
This warranty does not cover:
-
Ammunition used in unsafe or improper ways, including use in the wrong caliber or firearm
-
Damage or malfunction caused by the firearm itself (e.g., mechanical issues, poor maintenance, improper modifications)
-
Ammo that has been reloaded or altered after purchase by the customer
-
Ammunition that has been improperly stored, exposed to extreme temperatures, moisture, oil, solvents or other damaging conditions
-
Isolated or occasional failures that can occur with any ammunition under some conditions
-
Any consequential, indirect or incidental damages, including damage to firearms, accessories, property or personal injury
If there is any doubt about whether your firearm is safe to use, stop using it and consult a qualified gunsmith or the firearm manufacturer.
5. How to make a warranty claim
If you believe you have a potential ammunition defect:
-
Stop using the ammo immediately.
-
Keep the original packaging, including any visible lot or batch numbers.
-
Save all remaining rounds that are part of the suspected defective batch.
-
Do not attempt to alter, reload or otherwise modify the ammunition.
-
Contact LAX Ammo San Diego or bring the ammo and receipt to the store as soon as possible (within 90 days of purchase).
Be prepared to explain:
-
What firearm you were using
-
How the ammo was stored
-
What exactly happened (e.g., failure to fire, unusual noise/recoil, visible damage)
-
Whether other brands/types of ammo work normally in the same firearm
6. Evaluation & remedies
Upon receiving the ammo and details:
-
We may visually inspect the ammunition and packaging
-
We may consult with the manufacturer or follow their warranty/claim procedures
-
We may decline to accept ammunition that appears unsafe to transport or store
If we determine, in our reasonable judgment and/or the manufacturer’s judgment, that the ammo is likely defective, we may offer one of the following remedies, at our discretion and subject to applicable law:
-
Replacement ammunition of the same or comparable type (if available); or
-
Store credit approximately equal to the purchase price of the defective portion; or
-
A refund of the purchase price of the defective portion
We are not obligated to provide more than the original purchase price paid for the defective ammunition.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
-
LAX Ammo San Diego’s liability under this warranty is limited to the remedies described above.
-
We are not responsible for indirect, incidental, consequential or punitive damages, including but not limited to damage to firearms or other property, lost time, lost use, or personal injury.
Nothing in this warranty is intended to limit rights that cannot be limited under applicable law.
8. Safety first
If you ever experience:
-
Unusual sounds, recoil or behavior from your firearm
-
A suspected squib load or obstructed barrel
-
Signs of overpressure or other dangerous conditions
Stop shooting immediately. Unload your firearm safely and consult a qualified gunsmith or the firearm manufacturer before using it again.
Your safety is more important than any product or claim.
