Website accessibility

Anyone should be able to get our hours, our address, what we stock and how California's rules work out of this site without hitting a wall. Here is where we actually stand, and how to tell us when we have got it wrong.

Conformance status

Our Goal Is WCAG 2.2 Level AA. We Are Partway There.

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines set three levels of conformance — A, AA and AAA. Level AA is the one most organisations aim at and the one we aim at.

LAX Ammo San Diego is committed to making this website usable by as many people as possible, including people with disabilities. Anyone should be able to find out what we stock, what the state requires at the counter and when we are open, without a technical barrier in the way.

Based on our own review, this site is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA — some parts of the content do not yet fully meet that standard. We are not claiming full conformance: no independent auditor has assessed this site, and a claim we cannot evidence is worth less than an honest one. Level AA is the target every page is built and checked against, and the gap is something we work at.

This statement was first published on and covers this entire website. It was rewritten for the current site and re-checked against it on .

Feedback

Tell Us If Something on This Site Blocks You

This is the part that matters. If a page will not work with your screen reader, your magnifier, your keyboard or your phone, we want to hear about it — and there is no form standing between you and a person.

What helps us fix it faster

You do not need any of this — “the deals page is unreadable on my phone” is a perfectly good report. But if you can tell us three things, we can usually reproduce it the same day:

  • Which page you were on, or roughly where on the site you were.
  • What you were trying to do, and what happened instead.
  • Which browser, device and assistive technology you were using.

What we do about it

The Measures Behind That Claim

Seven things this site does, each of which you can check for yourself rather than take on trust.

  1. Accessibility is written into our own guidelines

The rules that govern how pages here get built include accessibility requirements, so they apply to whoever writes the next page rather than living in one person's head.

  2. Pages are assembled from shared, reviewed components

Headings, buttons, links, breadcrumbs and question-and-answer lists all come from one small set of shared components, so fixing an accessibility problem once fixes it everywhere it appears.

  3. New pages get checked before they go up

Colour contrast, heading order, link text that makes sense out of context, and whether the page can be operated by keyboard alone. Contrast ratios are recorded alongside the components themselves, so a failing combination is caught while it is being written.

  4. Reported problems get fixed as quickly as we reasonably can

We are a small, locally owned store and we will not get everything right first time. What we can promise is that a report reaches a person rather than a queue.

  5. The content works without JavaScript

Every page's text, headings, links and answers are in the page as delivered. Animation is decoration layered on afterwards, never what makes content appear, and every page is reachable from the links in the footer.

  6. Motion respects your system setting

If your device is set to reduce motion, the animations here collapse to nothing and the moving footage on the home page is never downloaded or played. That footage is silent and decorative, and carries a real pause control for everyone else.

  7. Nothing is hidden behind a script you have to run

No pop-up, no cookie wall, no interstitial, no checkout. The map on the contact page only loads if you ask it to, and the address and phone number sit beside it as plain text either way.

Compatibility

Browsers, Devices and the Technology We Rely On

This site is built from HTML, CSS and JavaScript. The first two are required for it to display as intended; the third is not required to read it.

Designed and tested to work with

  • Current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Microsoft Edge, on Windows and macOS.
  • Current versions of iOS and Android, in their built-in browsers.
  • The screen readers, magnifiers and voice control built into those operating systems, used with those browsers.
  • Keyboard-only operation, including a skip link that jumps straight to the main content and a visible outline on whatever element you are focused on.

May not work correctly on

  • Browsers more than three major versions out of date.
  • Mobile operating systems more than five years old.
  • Internet Explorer, and other browsers no longer supported by their maker.

If an old browser or device is what you have, that is not a reason to go without. Call 858-987-0509 or text 310-499-3499 and we will read you anything on the site, check stock and tell you what to bring.

Known limitations

Where We Know We Fall Short

A statement that lists no shortcomings is not being honest about a Level AA target. These are the gaps we know about; there will be some we do not.

No independent audit

Nobody outside this business has assessed the site against WCAG 2.2, and we have not run formal testing sessions with people who use screen readers, switch access or voice control day to day. Everything we say about conformance rests on our own checking, which is exactly why the status above says partially conformant and no more than that. If your experience contradicts anything on this page, your experience is the evidence.

Third-party content we do not control

The Google map on our contact page is generated by Google and its accessibility is not ours to fix. It does not load unless you choose to load it, and the same information — the full address in plain text, a phone number for directions, and a link that opens the location in your own maps app — sits alongside it either way, so nothing is available only inside the embed.

Long pages

Our California ammo law guide and the longer posts on the blog are dense by nature and take a while to travel through with a keyboard or a screen reader. Each is broken into headings you can jump between, but if you would rather have any of it read to you or explained on the phone, that is a call we are happy to take.

What this site deliberately does not have

No online checkout, no cart, no shipping — ammunition in California has to change hands face to face at the counter, and accessories are in-store purchases as a matter of our own store policy. There are also no forms here at all. That removes a whole category of accessibility problem, but it means the phone, a text message and email are the only ways to reach us, which is why those three are at the top of this page rather than buried in a footer.

Assessment approach

How We Check, and What We Check With

Self-evaluation. New and changed pages get a manual pass for heading order, colour contrast, link text, keyboard focus and whether the page still reads with scripting and animation turned off. Contrast is calculated against the actual colour values in the design system rather than eyeballed, and the failing combinations are written down next to the components so nobody reaches for one by accident.

Automated checking. We use the accessibility tools built into browsers, plus free online checkers. These catch mechanical problems — a missing label, an image with no description, a contrast ratio under the threshold — and miss most of the ones that actually stop people, which is why they are not the whole of our process.

What you tell us. Every accessibility report we receive gets read and acted on. As the site grows we expect to add more formal testing and, at some point, an external review.

This statement describes our website. It is general information about how we build and check this site, and it is not legal advice — reading it does not create any professional relationship, and it is not a representation about anyone else's obligations. It also says nothing about California's ammunition rules: that is a separate subject, covered on our California ammo law page, which carries its own review date — last checked — and links straight through to the California DOJ — Ammunition Purchase Authorization Program. Where anything here disagrees with an official source, the official source wins.

We review this page at least once a year, and sooner whenever the site changes substantially or somebody reports a barrier we had not accounted for.

Stock & deal questions

Can't use the site? Use us instead.

Nothing on this website is the only way to get anything. Stock, this week's deals, hours, directions and what to bring for the state's eligibility check are all a phone call or a text away, and nobody at this counter is going to rush you.

Se habla español

  • Ask if your caliber is in stock today, and what it runs.
  • Ask what the in-store Deal of the Week is before you drive out.
  • Ask what to bring for the California eligibility check.
  • Ask anything about a load, a caliber, or your gun. No pressure, no attitude.
